The 2nd Intelligent Green & Energy efficient Building Conference, 27th - 30th March at Beijing International Convention Centre, China

The 2nd Intelligent Green & Energy Efficient Building Conference, 27th 30th March at Beijing International

Not only will Monodraught have a Stand as part of the British Pavilion but we have also constructed a purpose-made Pavilion that will be erected in the car park outside, so that visitors can see the SunPipes, Windcatchers, SunCatchers, Monovents and Sola-Vents all operating in a working environment. It was at the Conference last year that we launched "SunPipe in China", so this second Show will consolidate our presence in the Chinese market. The Chinese visitors are all very intrigued and fascinated by the energy free lighting and indeed, energy free ventilation provided by the Monodraught products.

Three Great Exhibitions to start 2006!

The 2006 Exhibition season is now upon us and following the tremendous success of the 15 Exhibitions that we took part in last year, we have started this year off with a bang! Our new Exhibition stand design is based around the theme of two 2m diameter SunPipes, which have created a most eye-catching display.

This is the premier Housebuilders’ Exhibition attracting more than 45,000 visitors over the four days of the Show. We were able to demonstrate our Sola-Vent system, which is attracting huge interest throughout the UK but we were also able to show the very popular Square SunPipe and Diamond SunPipes both of which have Patents applied for and interest never seems wane! ITV Central News featured our stand on their 6pm News programme and as can be imagined, the following day we were inundated with visitors who had come to the Show to see our remarkable product.

Held in Harrogate, this was the first Exhibition devoted entirely to School building for the future and attracted just over 1,000 visitors. The organizers were Exposure Events in conjunction with Mtech Group. There was tremendous interest in our stand from Local Authorities, Architects, and Consulting Engineers, and this underlined our belief that Monodraught have a very important part to play in School design and this opinion appeared to be endorsed by the many visitors to our stand.

This was the second Ecobuild Exhibition held at Earls Court and it was so successful the Organisers say that next year’s Show will be twice as big! Some 8,000 visitors attended and there were more than 150 Seminars also taking place during the course of the Exhibition, which attracted a great number of Architects, Engineers, Local Authorities, and other Specifiers. Our stand was hectic throughout the two days with hardly a moment to spare and at this Show, we were able to show off our Sola-Wind and other solar driven Monodraught products.

Wind Turbines Under Test

Two of our Vortex wind turbines are now under test on our offices at Halifax House and the particular experiment we are running at the moment is to put one at high level, some 4m above roof intersection, and the other at just 1 ½ m above the intersection with the roof. The performance of both systems is then carefully monitored and logged on an hourly basis, so that we can see how the performance compares and to see if the taller wind turbine does indeed produce more electricity than the lower one. We also have a fixed air speed anemometer, so that everything can be related back to the external wind speed and this in itself produces a logarithm of performance characteristics.

We are now able to offer a wide range of PV panels ranging from 10 Watt right up to 60 Watt but as part of our monitoring process, we have installed two 60 Watt panels outside the office, so that we can monitor the performance on an hourly basis to determine what contribution the panels make to our Sola-Wind microgeneration. The photograph shows the ease in which panels can be fitted to a vertical wall, as compared to the normal approach of putting them on a flat roof. This method is both discreet and secure, as well as making the application of photovoltaic panels more adaptable to the building constraints.

Windcatcher Sales Break All Limits

1 There has been a remarkable uptake in the application of Windcatcher systems and the graphs above do indeed show this remarkable increase. We monitor sales at the end of each month to predict the trend for the rest of the year and although January and February are traditionally “short” months, it can be seen that we sold 283 Windcatchers up to 28th February. If we only maintain this rate, that would equate to approximately 1,600 Windcatchers installed this year, which will be double our sales for last year. Indeed, our sales normally increase as the year goes on, so we will be pretty busy!

It is also interesting to see the breakdown of Windcatchers and that still, 70% of our Windcatchers are installed on Schools and Colleges.

This is a very interesting trend that we will monitor now on a monthly basis.

Our Boss Goes Green

To further underline his 'green credentials', our Chairman and Managing Director, Professor Terry Payne has converted his Porsche Cayenne to LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas)! Not only does this result in a substantial fuel saving but it also significantly reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 3.35 tonnes per year. The big attraction of running a car on LPG is that LPG is half the price of petrol or diesel because the government charge far less Duty as part of its commitment to the environment. In addition, LPG conversions are exempt from the London congestion charge! If this initial conversion is a success, it is likely that the company's fleet of 10 Mercedes Benz Sprinters vans will also be similarly converted.
