Job Outline

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Development Engineer to join our Research and Development team. Reporting to the Technical Director, the position primarily involves New Product Development (NPD) and existing product enhancement.

You will be required to work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop new products from concept through to product launch and integration within the organisation. You will have a proven track record of NPD, working in a 3D environment to develop and test prior to manufacture. 

The position will be office based at the companies Head Office in High Wycombe with a requirement to visit construction sites across the UK as necessary. 

The individual will be interested in renewable and low carbon technologies and need to be able to work efficiently and to meet deadlines.  

This is a rewarding and diverse role with a high degree of autonomy, where you will work within a team either as project lead or contributing to the success of the project. The role provides an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to develop experience within a dynamic organisation and may offer further progression in a management role.

Key Duties

  • Manage projects efficiently, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and in accordance with the appropriate procedures
  • Create and review SolidWorks models of products to enable concept development, enhance designs and produce through to manufacturing stage
  • An understanding of conducting FEA analysis and flow simulations to assess pre-production designs
  • Liaising with departments ensuring relevant information and details are communicated to all aspects of the organisation to enable successful product launch
  • Conducting product testing e.g. acoustic tests, airflow measurements and strength testing
  • Producing product documentation for certification processes and marketing information
  • Liaising with clients and customers as well as within the organisation to co-ordinate the smooth progression of projects from concept through to product launch
  • Managing the project development to ensure the completion of the project within time and budget
  • Offering assistance and technical support to staff and clients
  • During peak periods the R&D team assist in the commissioning process of projects

Competences Required

  • Minimum Qualification - Mechanical Engineering Degree
  • At least 5+ years experience in a design position
  • Able to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in AutoCAD & SolidWorks
  • Proficient in FEA use and Fluid Flow simulation
  • Motivated self-starter with strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Able to organise and prioritise workload effectively paying attention to important details and can be relied upon to produce high quality work
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of CE Certification process
  • Knowledge of the Commercial Ventilation industry would be of benefit
  • Confident, responsible and reliable individual, comfortable to contribute effectively to team effort but also the desire to take on a project and lead a team to a successful conclusion
  • Current valid UK driving licence
