Project Code has positive impact on research and development at Monodraught

As part of our ongoing CSR commitment to provide more skills and opportunities in the local area, we were delighted to launch our “Project Code” programme from our High Wycombe HQ during July 2017.

We invited university undergraduate students to come and work with us for a two week period.  They would work as part of a multidisciplinary team to initiate the concept, design and development of a wireless link for low energy technologies. Our participants are studying Electronics Engineering, Computer Sciences and Robotics and were on courses from Plymouth University, the University of Leicester and the University of Surrey.

“This is was fantastic opportunity for the students to come and work with the Monodraught R&D team in a fun, supportive environment.  They gained valuable work experience in hardware and software engineering.  We have a long tradition of working with relevant universities for our innovations and I look forward to running similar initiatives in the future” Nick Hopper, Technical Director

What value did the students attribute to the Hackathon?

We caught up with some of the participants recently to get feedback on the programme and asked them about the most valuable part of the programme for them:

“The most interesting aspect of the programme was actually creating our solutions to the given problem.Overall the experience of just being at an office, working together with other members and presenting the solutions at the end invaluable.”

“It was interesting connecting the hardware side to the software side. I developed a web app, this involved a few challenges, however with the support of the team we managed to pull this off.”

Constructive feedback powers planning for 2018

“We enjoyed having students from a variety of different disciplines who could all look at solving the challenge from a different perspective.  We definitely feel that there is benefit in running a similar activity next summer.” Sam Theobald, Electronic Design Engineer
