Having received the relevant building information, our Design Engineers will construct a complete dynamic thermal model. From this they will ascertain the size and number of systems required for a particular natural ventilation or cooling strategy. We will then send a detailed proposal document outlining the design parameters and the compliance results along with the associated thermal comfort criterion for our proposed strategy.
Our design team use Navensys and IES for building thermal simulation. By encompassing all the design parameters and construction specification details that influence the way in which a building responds to the external environment, modelling can replicate the physical building form and simulate the likely internal conditions depending on industry recognised external weather data.
Developed by Monodraught, this simplified dynamic thermal simulation software models building natural ventilation strategies during the initial project stages. It requires fewer inputs than other software, e.g. IES or Tas, and is useful for initially sizing Monodraught natural ventilation and low energy systems, when full details of a building are not readily available. Navensys is the result of our many years’ experience and is the 4 years of academic research by Brunel University, and has been calibrated against performance data from the Tas thermal modelling software.
Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) are the global leaders in building performance simulation and IES VE-Pro is widely recognised as providing one of the most accurate modelling for natural ventilation strategies using bulk air flow simulation. It is a powerful suite of building performance analysis tools and is the primary design tool used by our Design Engineers. The ApacheSim thermal simulation engine, supported by the SunCast and MacroFlo modules, complies with the requirements of CIBSE Application Manual AM11.
Our Design Engineers can work with IES models provided by a third party to simulate performance of our products. By working with the client pre-defined input parameters, our Design Engineers can ensure that they are using thermal and construction templates that accurately reflect the building fabric and its internal environment.
In collaboration with IES, we have developed performance components for Monodraught products to revolutionise modelling of natural ventilation and natural cooling systems. The VE-Pro suite includes 3D components which can be used to transparently assess the energy performance of our systems and to build client confidence. IES tools can also assist architects to integrate the product into the building aesthetics.
